Redesign Aborted

In case it wasn’t clear, my redesign has been aborted for the time being. Since I hadn’t saved my previous design, I have gone back to the default Movable Type 3.0 theme. Once I get some more time and motivation I will redesign it again.

My Online Notebook

I’ve set up a personal wiki as an online notebook for myself. I’ve tried using a number of different options to keep my thoughts and notes organized, including Moleskine Notebooks of various sizes and Google Notebook. In both cases I’ve found it hard to organize my ideas and to find things later.

I contribute to a number of wikis already, so I know how to administer and use MediaWiki very well. It will hopefully allow me the flexibility to organize and track my notes to the degree that I wish.

I’ve had a number of half formed blog posts sitting in MT that I’ve transitioned to the wiki already. I’ve also added del.icio.us bookmarks, Google Reader shared items, and a special Amazon Wishlist that shows what I’m currently reading and thinking about.

This new personal notebook will grow and evolve as time goes on, as long as I actually use it. As it does, I’ll keep you updated as to what I’ve found works and doesn’t through its evolution.

The Start of a Slippery Slope

People seem to hate the design of this site, especially the font choice. I’m quite happy with it, but I don’t want to dissuade people from reading my site because they find it ugly. So I’m just starting to think about changing it.

The thing I like most about my design is that it’s simple and not cluttered. However, I’m thinking of adding this:

Trajectory

I’ve set some long-term goals for myself, related to this blog, you can see them there to the right. There are five of them, five topics I would like to focus on and think about. Each of them involves an end-state of publishing some type of document. I’ve never been published anywhere, and here I am talking about publishing on five disparate topics. A high hurdle, I suppose.

A New Lease on Blogging

You might be wondering why nothing has been on this site for the past year or so, and why I haven’t updated for even longer. You see, I found that my hosting was just a bit too expensive, so I canceled it. Since I hadn’t been blogging, I didn’t feel any great impetus to get something new going. But, given enough time, I’ll get anything done whether I’m motivated to do it or not. So here is a new site.

Clearly, there is not design to it and there aren’t any of my old archives. I’ll probably try bringing them back at some point, but maybe not, I haven’t yet decided. Design wise, I like what Ben Hammersley has going on. I’ll go with something spartan like that. Good luck navigating my archives if I do that. Blogging is a fairly transient sport anyways, maybe I’ll just keep archives for a few months and then let them dissipate into the ether. That’s a compelling idea to me.
